ABSTRACT

India is trying to bolster its engagement in West Asia at a time when the regional politics is as murky as ever. The rapid economic growth set off by globalisation has transformed India into a major economic powerhouse, which in a way kindled its great power ambitions and made it an attractive market for other countries, particularly the energy and technology exporting countries in West Asia. Relations between India and the Gulf region represent the fastest growing relations in the past few years and have started gaining strategic dimensions – the cooperation has been extended to areas such as counter-terrorism and high-level mutual visits became more frequent.
