ABSTRACT

The ever-emerging research confirming the importance of early childhood music learning firmly places the prekindergarten years as crucial for music development. All children have musical potential, and prekindergarteners learn best through play: singing, playing instruments, creating, and moving to the music they hear. These musical-play experiences of performing, creating, and responding (presented in the 2014 PreK National Core Music Standards) help young children develop important understandings about music.
