Art Hack Day bridges the gap between art, technology and entrepreneurship with grassroots hackathons and exhibitions that demonstrate the expressive potential of new technology and the power of radical collaboration in art. Art Hack Day was born from a frustration that, in its current mode, the art world seemingly fails to see the expressive and playful potential of technology, while the technology world seems to fail to recognize and value the beauty in its powerful new tools and their potential artistic use. It’s an event focused on creating, not theorizing. If there is a theory underpinning Art Hack Day, it resides in its methodology and the practices it embraces. This chapter explains the genesis, evolution and impact of Art Hack Day and what it tries to demonstrate.
