ABSTRACT

As sharia finance is growing in Indonesia, the sovereign sukuk has an important role in encouraging the growth of sharia finance. As a financial instrument, the sovereign sukuk is expected to enhance the government’s capacity in infrastructure development. However, the development of the sovereign sukuk in Indonesia is relatively low compared to the global sukuk trend. This research study aims to find out the problems and the solutions in developing the sovereign sukuk in Indonesia. The method used in this research is a qualitative method using a case study. The research data is gathered from a literature review and in-depth interviews with Bank Indonesia, Islamic fiqh experts, academics, and practitioners. The results of this research are several strategies that can be used to enhance the development of the sovereign sukuk in Indonesia.
