ABSTRACT

Recent developments in computer graphics and 3D acquisition technology have strongly affected archaeological practice. New investigation strategies based on the use of 3D geo-referenced libraries have been successfully introduced to and by archaeologists to simulate and interpret the past. This chapter will review the impact of 3D realistic modelling on the archaeological understanding of space. Specifically, it will present and discuss different case studies where this approach was used in synergy with different investigation methods for analysis and interpretation.
