ABSTRACT

Since the 1970s, Annie Sprinkle’s work has blurred the lines between art, porn, performance, and advocacy. Her films include her groundbreaking Deep Inside Annie Sprinkle (1981), Sluts and Goddesses (1992), and Herstory of Porn (1998). Since 2002, Sprinkle has collaborated with her wife Beth Stephens on projects including a seven-year performance The Love Art Laboratory, a series of performance art weddings beginning in 2005, and several “ecosexual” films including Goodbye Gauley Mountain: An Ecosexual Love Story (2013) and Water Makes Us Wet: An Ecosexual Adventure (2017). This chapter includes an interview with Sprinkle from the March 2003 issue of The Independent Film & Video Monthly and an original interview with Sprinkle and Stephens from 2018.
