ABSTRACT

The internal coaching may be applied to a variety of contexts, the most common being line managers adopting a coaching style of management and accredited coaches within the organization, who have a level of training equal to externally resourced coaches. Trend studies of coaching indicate increasing volumes of internally resourced coaching by managers and others, who have acquired similar qualifications to their external counterparts through an accredited coach training provider and/or one of the professional associations. Internal coaches, however, are much more likely to be attuned to the organizational culture and mores, so can better contextualize their coaching. The ultimate objective of team coaching from outside the team, whether internally or externally resourced from an organizational perspective, is to enable the team to develop its capacity to self-coach. Many employer organizations invest in continuous professional development, as required by professional coaching bodies, and in supervision.
