ABSTRACT

This chapter elaborates on the correlation of consumption regarding the zones and schedules of distribution conducted by the municipality. It aims to verify the findings of the survey conducted on water demand, as well as to establish domestic demand patterns using more accurate measurements. The chapter analyses the lack of equity in attempt to find a correlation between the schedules of intermittent distribution applied by the municipality, and the water consumption. It addresses the issue of domestic water demand in Puerto Ayora (Santa Cruz Island). For critical analyses of specific domestic water demand, two procedures were used for its estimation. The chapter shows that the hours of intermittency need to be re-evaluated or even completely eliminated. Storage tanks are not necessarily helping the local population as has been thought over the last two decades, but has contributed to the limitation on the performance of the supply system.
