ABSTRACT

The eighth and final chapter summarises how the presented analysis answered the research questions. Overall, the book has two main findings: first, interest groups isolate European affairs through their departmental structure when they create a special department for European affairs. They thereby decrease their potential for contacts and cooperation in the EU. Second, the project finds that groups externalise or internalise conflict with their members through their organisational structure and thereby encounter different levels of conflict at the European level. It proceeds by elaborating on the scope and the limitations of the analytical framework and the empirical findings, and the relevance of this research for other strands of the literature. The last section of the chapter concludes with the presentation of construction sites for future research which have opened during the research process.
