ABSTRACT

This chapter provides the preparation methods and desire for personal mobility shared by a wide range of Chinese students. It offers perspectives of the wider implications that preparation and the desire for increased global mobility have on Chinese students seeking tertiary educational experiences abroad. Mental preparation is a key aspect of Chinese students' willingness and comfort with cross-border mobility, and most students in this study cited friends and other Chinese students as sources of mental preparation for studying abroad. Overall, Chinese students' increased mobility has definite economic consequences, and the partnership program trend is one facilitator of this movement. For many Chinese students, applying to college through partnership programs is an easy way to have a chance to experience life abroad while enjoying the security of going through a known entity. Students studying in partnership programs felt more comfortable with the preparation they received.
