ABSTRACT

This chapter provides seven full transcripts of clinical hypnosis sessions that illustrate how sessions targeting specific problems might be structured. Before going to the transcripts, though, there are two topics which briefly re-emphasizes for their importance in structuring interventions. The first concerns whether to focus on the content or process of a problem, and the second concerns the use of scripts in hypnosis sessions. The chapter encourages clinicians to use those approaches that not only help solve a problem, but also teach the process of problem-solving. If therapist introduce new and more effective ways to address a problem and make it practical for people to absorb and apply new concepts and methods, the content must also change as a direct and predictable consequence. The transcript represents part of a hypnosis session conducted quite early on in her therapy addressing the themes of building boundaries and evolving a clearer definition of self.
