ABSTRACT

The study emphasized on palm plantation biomass waste because it is the most concern potency for bioethanol raw material in Indonesia. Here, Indonesia is the world leading producer of palm oil, as consequence number of palm oil plantation was developed since 1968. Only 79.209 Ha belongs to the Indonesian government and the other 40.451 Ha runs by private. Empty fruit bunch (EFB) produced from palm oil production since the EFB composition in fresh fruit bunch is similar to palm oil, 22–23%w. This huge potency was waiting to be explored for the sake of Indonesian prosperity. The most efficient way to detach palm fruit from it bunch is by steam cooking the fresh bunch in the autoclave. Palm plantation biomass waste is used as raw material for ethanol production. To build self-sufficient energy of integrated production plant which produces bioethanol, lignin, 208lignin derivatives, and wood coating agent, cheminformatics approach was suitable for preliminary analysis in planning plant intensification or product diversification. Several analyses from the previous study in transforming old pulp mill into biorefinery plant with ethanol production can be applied in a model of bioethanol production plant from palm oil EFB that was planned to be built in Indonesia. Information and research results from the existing bioethanol pilot plant which gave significant support in developing cheminformatics preliminary analysis. Production of lignin derivatives as an integral part of bioethanol production plant increase the overall energy efficiency which leads to the increasing feasibility of integration process.
