ABSTRACT

Big Business and mass production in America have had one very great advantage, and that has been the willingness of their public to accept something new. Mass production and Big Business could not have progressed to where they are to-day without the very great assistance they have had from American salesmanship and advertising. In advertising and in selling they have kept the national, the American, idea to the front in this relatively new country of mixed races as strongly, in general, as they have the sale of their particular product. Modern office efficiency had its origin in the United States. There is a very real national pride in American industrial efficiency. Most people suspect bureaucracy in monopolies and in protected industries. Bureaucracy is an almost universal tendency, present in some degree everywhere. Everyone is familiar with its implication of over elaboration and of paper management.
