ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a broad overview of initial research activities, which broadly map on to what are usually seen as recruitment and data collection phases. Methodologically, video-reflexive ethnography (VRE) seeks to exnovate everyday practices reflexively and in collaboration with practitioners and stakeholders. The chapter discusses these issues in the order, the recursive and iterative nature of some VRE projects means that sometimes recruitment, videoing of practices, analysis and reflexive sessions can happen concurrently or in any order rather than in a linear fashion. The main focus of VRE has been to do research with healthcare workers for practice change. A small but growing number of researchers are inviting patients and family members to become actively involved in VRE research. The chapter focuses on to the practice of videoing care practices. It addresses the technological, practical and relational issues that arise there.
