ABSTRACT

Autonomy, Belonging, Competence, and Meaning of Motivation students are more likely to put forth effort, persist, take academic risks, and achieve when they feel Autonomous, a sense of Belonging with others, and Competent, and when they perceive that what they are learning is personally Meaningful. The All Learners Learning Every Day Framework has four steps. These are step one: identify OSCAR, step two: look and listen, step three: clarity, access, rigor, or relevance check and step four: structures for tasks, help, and options (SHOp) adjustments. Connective instruction refers to teaching practices that promote emotional connection to the content being taught, the teacher, and the instruction of the class. Students must perceive a match between their skills and opportunities to use those skills.
