ABSTRACT

When project sponsors do not fully understand a project's implications or are unwilling or unable to take the necessary action, the project manager tries to convince the sponsors that the project is important to the organization. Without the appropriate project sponsor's attention, energy, action, and other resources, a major project will falter after it is announced. A committed project sponsor recognizes the demand that a change project makes on organizational resources, including knowledge, time, and money. The project manager should assist a sponsor in showing he or she means business by establishing procedures for tracking the progress and problems of a change project. Conducting human due diligence is gathering information, planning, and engaging in actions related to the impact that change is having or will have on an organization's human capital. This includes conducting due diligence to determine if the project is a candidate for an official project change management initiative.
