ABSTRACT

Scientific exploration can open new perspectives in almost every field of the world. This has been shown earlier and is currently going on leading 520to newer discoveries and inventions ultimately improving human life and health. In this context nanotechnology has emerged as an interdisciplinary science created by an eclectic band of physicists, chemists, engineers pooling their talents and the application of it to improve human health is nanobiology or nanomedicine. Nanotechnolgy has been applied to almost every field of biology and here the topic of interest is microbiology that is, the study of small organisms. The part of science that studies small stuff is nanotechnology and the part that studies small organisms is microbiology. At a number of levels, microbiology and nanoscience are related. Bacterial entities, formation of hyphae in fungi, viral capsids can be compared with the nanoscale self-assembly. Present day molecular biology techniques are already applied to nanotechnology. Imaging of single molecules, nanoscale molecules and determination of spatial organization can be studied using nanotools and technology. Food contaminants (chemical and biological) can be studied through nanotechnology. Infectious diseases can be studied and targeted through nanotechnology. This chapter describes the nanoscale objects in the study of microorganisms for the betterment of society and health science.

There’s plenty of room at the bottom.
