Philosophy and the Aesthetics of Social Engagement 1

This chapter explains how architecture might, through aesthetics, begin to address social issues including those of race and gender, and how such developments rely on understanding aesthetic distances in architecture. It describes through Rancière’s “distribution of the sensible,” and Graham Harman’s Object-Oriented Ontology (OOO) why it is important to understand aesthetic distances in these contexts.
