ABSTRACT

Chapter 3 runs through emergent themes of disassembly, disentangling and reassembling of the disparate parts of this historical/contemporary network. Description of the relationships between the component parts is achieved through identifying the different actors, agencies and elements of the assemblage across time and through space. Documenting the impact of different value systems and epistemologies on access to heritage objects clarifies their meanings for specific communities. The nuances of cross-cultural interactions, in the context of this particular collection and historical context, are revealed through themes of power, agency, principles and values, to extend current debates on ethnographic collections in anthropology museums.
