ABSTRACT

China has achieved a great measure of success in the search for economic growth since the founding of the People's Republic in 1949. The nation's primary task has been set as the realization of a socialist modernization of industry, agriculture, national defence, and science and technology. The experience of industrialization in other countries shows that the acceleration of the process of industrial development depends not only on advanced technology in production but also on improved management. The fundamental work of scientific management is essential to the application of modern methods of management and the successful operation of industrial production. The importance of management to the successful operation of an industrial enterprise has been overlooked for many years, especially during the ‘Cultural Revolution’. The modernization of China's economy described above demands a rapid advance in science and technology and also a rapid improvement in management, especially in industrial enterprises.
