ABSTRACT

This chapter explains some aspects of workers’ reactions to the managerial styles and behaviour of their managers by examining the cultural environments of the organizations. The associated managerial styles were copied from the Eastern socialist countries, and workers were allowed to participate in the management of their organizations. Female attitudes towards work and the cultural attitude towards working women are other burdens on all Algerian organizations employing female workers. One thing is undeniable, cultural differences cannot be ignored. Even among the industrially advanced countries there are differences in culture and characteristics. Organizational effectiveness is also affected by the belief that older people should be respected. So, conflicts arise between people who are older and have experience within an organization and those who are younger and have qualifications. A workers’ representative, who had been elected at both unit and enterprise levels, was asked by us if the manager of the unit created problems for workers’ representatives.
