ABSTRACT

The 2012 Sandy Hook School Shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, is the subject matter of Chapter 12. Written by Wayne F. Dailey, who has worked for decades in public sector behavioral health clinical care, policy development, research, and management, this chapter draws on the breadth and depth of his experience to elucidate the experiences of responding to this unique disaster. The toll taken on responders, survivors and families of survivors is sympathetically relayed to the reader and contextualised by Dailey’s experience as a responder for Red Cross Disaster Mental Health.
