ABSTRACT

Chapter 14, written by licensed psychologist and Associate Professor in the Department of Counseling, Clinical, and School Psychology, Erika Felix, concerns the 2014 Isla Vista massacre in California in which there were multiple fatalities and non-fatal injuries. The chapter begins with an appreciation of the beginnings of Felix’s disaster mental health interest, then throughout the chapter the reader is offered a series of succinct observations concerning the nature of the disaster, the author’s response to it, how she adjusted following the incident, and a useful collection of lessons learned.
