ABSTRACT

Chapter 21, written by Reine Lebel, a counsellor and Gestalt therapist who has volunteered with the Red Cross, Care, and Médecins sans Frontières, brings the reader to Guinea during the 2014 Ebola outbreak, which was part of the wider West African Ebola virus epidemic. In Guinea, the epidemic left more than 2,000 orphans under 15 years of age. Lebel gives the reader a helpful overview of the country pre-epidemic, and insightful look at her thoughts as she prepared to participate in the response effort and comprehensive view of her experience as a responder and how she coped following the experience; including the personal self-care ritual she has developed.
