ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on higher-level concepts of arranging and producing from both a creative and an industry-standard perspective. It explores how to create a cohesive style of music based on the song and its details. The chapter discusses how to order the songs on the album, and a bit about concept albums. Classifying a band’s musical style can be important in order to define the music’s market. Once producers have defined the style, they can think about how they might want to adjust the band’s approach. Of course, it is not good to try to change the band’s style. Of the 13 aspects, rhythm, lyrics, instrumentation, and performance do the most to determine the style of music. A concept album is one on which every song is dedicated to an overall concept. The Wall by Pink Floyd is one of the most famous concept albums.
