ABSTRACT

The nature of the course, standards set by the instructor, and the student’s personal interests determine the final topic choice. Students may wish to combine one or more types of topics to limit the scope of their research as a way of focusing on their particular interests. There are a number of ways that students can assure that their topic contains the characteristics. When choosing a topic, students must keep in mind that whatever they have chosen to write about must relate to the course material, be interesting to study, and adhere explicitly to the instructions and limitations set by the instructor. Open-ended writing assignments are opportunities to develop long-term professional interests. Each subdiscipline in political science offers a set of rich and varied subjects for students to explore. Writing assignments provide students opportunities to explore information and gain expertise about political events and processes.
