ABSTRACT

This chapter provides examples for practices and expectations for manuscript format commonly expected in political science. Students should check their syllabus or assignment handout concerning their written assignments for specific details for the format and instructor’s preferred style. Students’ grades for writing assignments typically include instructor evalutions on whether the manuscript demonstrates adherence to the details for the assignment, the quality of arguments, evidence, and sources, and diversity of sources used in the paper. Check the style guide required by the instructor to verify that the suggestions conform to the standards set by the guide. Studies show that media is the major source of political information. The special impact of television is that it delivers the news to a much larger and “inadvertent” audience than was the case before television, when only a limited segment of the population chose to follow news about politics and government.
