ABSTRACT

Before the approach to the achievement of objectives is designed, a great deal of thinking, discussion and decision-making will already have taken place. Early discussions may have been about what educa tion in schools should be concerned with, and these should result in a statement of an agreed general aim or aims of education which will provide the base for later development work. This could be followed by the analysis of the learning situation in which detailed information about the actual school, the pupils and their social and physical back grounds will be recorded. This, of course, is a normal procedure when student teachers make preparatory visits to their teaching practice schools. The important point, however, is that such information should be used in designing an approach, and not simply noted or recorded.
