ABSTRACT

This chapter considers a large dedicated project which requires be planning and executing from the beginning. However, the principles described apply to any project, before commencing the detailed design work, it will also be necessary to specify some technical standards and to establish formal methods of communication for the project. Even on relatively small projects, it may be necessary to provide special technical facilities for developing and testing the application. Computerised systems of project management exist and, among these, various forms of project evaluation and review technique provide a very effective system for project control; but it must also be remembered that it takes time and effort to administer such systems successfully. The aim in creating an organisation structure is to enable the project to be completed within the prescribed timescale and cost. The problem which arises in many projects is that the time and money allocated to complete the task begin to run out.
