ABSTRACT

In the Hungarian economy there is practically full employment, which means job security for almost every worker. Characteristic of firm-level labour policy is hoarding and squandering the labour force whatever the state of the labour market. The relative cheapness of labour and the constraints imposed by wage regulation are often a hindrance to the introduction and utilisation of advanced technologies. One of the most spectacular changes in the Hungarian labour market in the last decades was a sudden improvement in the educational structure. Work organisation in production is developed mainly by management's initiatives and its aims are determined by productivity considerations rather than by workers' claims. The computer numerical control (CNC) machines are operated by the most experienced, most intelligent skilled workers competent in the traditional technology. In maintaining and repairing CNC machines the biggest problems are caused by the lack of expertise.
