ABSTRACT

Looking more broadly and building on Chapter 4, the text looks at the pace of change and reflects how the speed of change is creating significant issues. Using data and statistics from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) we examine the way technology is being adopted. The text uses the ONS data to show how stark schisms on the use and understanding of technology exist based on age profiles. The data show how the age profile who are currently in senior leadership positions use technology significantly less than those in younger age cohorts. The text then explores what this means for how these leaders are understanding the changes and how they translate their understanding into policy that shapes everything from our governance at national level to the way schools are run. Without passing judgement, the chapter explores what this means for the pace of change and how this split is effecting the ability of systems to reimagine what schools need to be like for the people they seek to serve.
