ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the building of interactive models for AC to DC converters, also known as rectifiers, is presented. Modern rectifiers use bipolar junction transistors, metal oxide semiconductor field-effect transistors, insulated gate bipolar transistors and gate turn-off thyristors. Here, interactive system models for single-phase full-wave diode bridge rectifiers (FWDBRs), full-wave controlled bridge rectifiers using silicon-controlled rectifiers and three-phase FWDBRs are developed. The switching function concept is used to develop these models. The system model for this FWCBR is developed combining the purely resistive load and RLE load in one model. For the RLE load, continuous load current conduction is assumed. The single pole double throw switch output is inverted using a NOT gate to enable selection of the RLE load. One model is suitable for either a purely resistive load or an RLE load.
