ABSTRACT
This chapter explores the first era of newsroom computerization in the form of mainframes and their attendant use as databases in large, daily newspapers, primarily on the East Coast, from the mid-1950s through the late 1960s, and the development of the first pagination software (by the ANPA’s Research Institute), OCR tech and other relevant analog tools.
