ABSTRACT

Chapter 6 addresses the issue of team building for leaders. The difference between a real team and a mere group of people is clarified. Also, the nine motivators are reviewed in terms of their being positively, or neutral, or difficult team motivators. The potential strengths and weaknesses of motivators are examined. A senior leadership team of three from a FTSE 350 company is studied from the perspective of motivation and team cohesion. A new Five Elements Model diagnostic is introduced, which rates the cohesion of a team, and also identifies which specific areas of The Five Elements Model might the team be weak or deficient in. The chapter ends with some practical tips on how to create a ‘draft team agreement’ that sticks with and works for the team.
