ABSTRACT

Chapter 3 reviews the connection between motivation, communication and relationships. It recommends a subtle shift of focus from direction to motivation, or in other words in motivation becoming a directional indicator. Further, it explores the nine motivators and their likely attachment to nine types of purpose. It then takes a real Motivational Organisational Map and shows how its data reveals how motivation can support or detract from organisational purpose. Communication concepts from NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) are introduced to facilitate better communications. VAK + AD (Visual, Auditory, Kinaesthetic + Auditory Digital) are the four major styles, but corporate styles predominate in AD, which only a minority ‘get’. Ways to increase VAK across the organisation are suggested and examples given. A simple technique to establish values is proposed.
