ABSTRACT

The corrugated board is produced in a continuous length on each machine, and cut across the width by a gang of adjustable slitters and then into lengths by two shears, so as to produce the required board sizes. The use of the special ruler mentioned earlier enables combinations at roll widths other than the maximum of 2,160 mm. to be sought. The simulations were based on the files of orders available at any one time for a sample set of board qualities selected by reference to a table of board quality popularities. The total number of qualities manufactured in the most recent year was 90, of which the top 10 accounted for 50% of the total production and the top 30 accounted for 92%. A given programme for quality of board consists of, in general, a list of pairs of orders, each pair having a certain run length, in metres, on the machine, producing a certain amount of side trim.
