ABSTRACT

Implementation of computer based training (CBT) means running it on a day-to-day basis, possibly for thousands of trainees in many locations, who will use a large number of CBT programs, including interactive video. This chapter describes the implementation of the larger-scale projects as a complex management task, although that sounds somewhat euphemistic. One can consider a large company that has decided to adopt CBT through commissioned production of company-specific interactive videodiscs and the purchase of off-the-shelf CBT programs for microcomputers. Immediately the adoption decision has been taken, resources must be identified and set aside for implementation. There is no doubt that CBT and interactive video is more demanding on buildings than most other forms of training. For implementation, many people become involved and they must be trained for and orientated to CBT as appropriate in each case. Apart from overall evaluation of the implementation, there should be proper structures for regular review of policy on CBT.
