ABSTRACT

The British Institute of Management (BIM) runs an advisory service for its members, has an extensive library containing books and articles on almost every management technique ever invented, and it offers one and two-day courses on many techniques in Classes O and A and some of the S. Certain organisations exist to propagate management knowledge, amongst them are Henley Staff College and Ash- ridge Management College, who hold residential courses lasting several days or weeks; InComTec and Industrial Education International who offer courses on techniques, sometimes in the S class. Some local libraries have a small but useful selection of management books and journals. The manager who has selected the technique will attend a short appreciation course or read an introductory book on the subject. A marketing manager decides to use a new forecasting technique. The BIM is probably the best starting point for managers new to management techniques.
