ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an overview of how LGBTQI youth experience adolescence differently than their non-LGBTQI counterparts. It also lays out many of challenges these youth experience, but in contrast to previous work on LGBTQI youth, resilience and adaptations are highlighted. Information is offered on how to prevent victimization and how to maximize prosocial coping. Much detail is provided about major social institutions of family, school, and religion, along with a figurative buffet of resources to aid in the development of LGBTQI supportive policies.
