ABSTRACT
Teacher candidates at the Intermediate level can perform more complex tasks as described by the middle column in the Developmental Curriculum. Teacher candidates at the Intermediate level of experience will understand teaching in the simplest and broadest terms. High-Leverage Teaching Tasks at the Intermediate level include teaching small groups and teaching a differentiated lesson to a large group. During the Intermediate experience, they will be expected to take a role in planning individual, small-group, and whole-group lesson plans. Teacher candidates with very little experience may begin the Intermediate level engaged with a single child or small group of P–12 students through activities that have no specific instructional goals. During the Intermediate experience, teacher candidates gradually move beyond unplanned interactions with P–12 students and assume more responsibility for planning and whole-group instruction. At the Intermediate level, the co-teaching strategies should diversify beyond one teach, one assist.
