ABSTRACT

The health benefits of common fruits are widely emphasized in recent years. Due to containing rich antioxidants and certain cancer inhibitors, these health-helpful ingredients make the fruits very advantageous in potent radical scavenging, conspicuous anticarcinogenic, anti-inflammatory, cardiovascular improving properties, and so on,. In this chapter, 16 botanical fruits, which are commonly commercialized in Western and/or Eastern markets, are discussed concerned with their pharmacological potentials based on the latest research discoveries. A diversity of bioactive phytochemicals in fruits, such as polyphenolics, carotenoids, vitamins, minerals, dietary fibers, and macronutrients, display significant health-stimulating and radical-scavenging activities, which are beneficial for lowering the risks of cancerous formation and some chronic diseases. In addition, the antioxidative and radical-scavenging capacities of various fresh fruits (more than 16 fruits) are compared with each other in the chapter context. All the positive results from the observations described in this chapter signified that keeping a habit of regular dietary fruits is a great deal for health improvement and body function promotion.
