ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the more cognitive aspects of subjective wellbeing such as satisfaction with life, satisfaction with specific life domains and satisfaction with the overall quality of life, and satisfaction with various aspects of living in Singapore and satisfaction with the overall quality of life. It also discusses in greater detail other aspects of subjective wellbeing such as happiness, enjoyment, achievement, control over important aspects of life, a sense of purpose in life and psychological flourishing. The chapter examines Singaporeans' affective aspects of their subjective wellbeing in terms of happiness, enjoyment, achievement, control and purpose. It reports the 2016 Quality of Life (QOL) Survey findings for the indicators of happiness, enjoyment, achievement, control and purpose, which gives more insights into Singaporeans' state of subjective wellbeing. The chapter compares findings with the results from the 2006 AsiaBarometer Survey and the 2011 QOL survey. It establishes good scale reliability for the 12-item Psychological Flourishing Scale and the 8-item Flourishing Scale.
