ABSTRACT

The opening chapter provides advice and guidance on planning for excellent outcomes. This includes the stages of writing a programme of study to cover several years of study, from deciding what the content should be to ensuring that it includes a range of second-order concepts and is reflective of the context of the school. The chapter then moves on to advise on crafting schemes of work that help to ensure students make progress: wrestling with the enquiry, reading around the topic and providing a grounding in soft skills such as effective research and collaborative learning.
