ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the intricacies of police officers and academics co-producing and carrying out research projects. Restorative Justice delivery is based on a conference that is organised by a trained facilitator, who can invite anyone who is affected by a crime or its aftermath to attend. Restorative Justice delivery is based on a conference that is organised by a trained facilitator, who can invite anyone who is affected by a crime or its aftermath to attend. In the North East of England Professor Newbury-Birch and her research assistant worked in the two police stations with the eight police officers involved in the project. The positive outcome was that the researchers and police learned a lot about each other’s roles and needs, while the downside was that this sometimes slowed progress while waiting for ratification, or obstructed progress if police or other agencies were reluctant or unwilling to share data.
