ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the economic impact. The dimension of tourism worldwide has an economical, social, cultural and environmental influence on tourism destinations and the influence can be positive and/or negative. To get a better understanding of the role of tourism in the international liquidity position, we must define the place of the sector in the balance of payments. Data for balance of payments estimated are often derived independently from different sources, and as a result there may be a summary net credit or net debit. The value of the multiplier is determined by the structure of the economy, the inter-sector relations, the import content, and the nature of the tourism product. Spending on new tourism products by the local population does not lead to a diversion of spending away from other goods and services. In theory there should be a diversion.
