ABSTRACT

Keyboardists were among the first to begin adopting the technology into their live setups. Musical instrument digital interface has become a staple in live performance. The technology has not only made it easier on artists, allowing them to have the sounds of 100 instruments while only bringing 1, but has also changed the way performers play live. Traditionally, the DJ was the sole performer who incorporated preprogrammed loops and affected them in real time while the electronic musician utilized live performance on electronic instruments. MainStage is designed to organize all of the preinstalled instruments on the user’s computer into one easy-to-access window for live performance. Ableton Live is a sequencer and digital audio workstation that specializes in giving the user extreme control over all aspects of the software. Multimedia integration during live performances has completely changed the dynamic of a show and transformed it into more of an interactive art installation.
