ABSTRACT

Working with clients who have Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) can be challenging for even the most seasoned clinicians. Thankfully, there are evidence-based strategies available. This chapter addresses couple therapy for cases in which one or both members have BPD or related features. It provides a basic overview of Borderline Personality Disorder, diagnostic criteria, and prevalence. The chapter also includes a brief discussion of etiology, culture, and treatment using recent research. Finally, it ends with a detailed case study demonstrating successful couple therapy for BPD.
