ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a glimpse into the application of finite element (FE) analysis (FEA) in the biomedical industry. The products selected for study are a 3.5-mm reconstruction bone plate and expert femur nail. These products are designed and tested in an FE environment for their robustness and longevity. Three types of tests are demonstrated in this work, namely analysis of stress and displacement under normal loads, four-point bend test, and fatigue analysis. The components are tested under normal and worst-case scenario conditions (five times normal load).
