ABSTRACT
This chapter provides a historical overview of the origins of humor in country music, of developments in the relationship between country music and comedy, and different kinds of humor found in country music. It discusses why humor was so important to country music performers and audiences. Examples include country artists who have used humor, specific songs that might be deemed funny, and comedy routines used by country artists or used in shows featuring country musicians.
