ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews main methods, including in situ and ex situ techniques, for the synthesis of carbon nanotubes (CNTs). Comparisons to several typical methods is presented. The topic of functionalization of CNTs is also included in this chapter. Then, the formation of CNTs/metal oxide hybrid composite is reviewed. Oxides such as Al2O3, TiO2, ZnO and Fe2O3 can be coupled with CNTs to produce hybrid material with enhanced properties suitable to be used as catalysts, sensors, and supercapacitors.
